What I Am Leaving in the Bones of Time
What one life leaves behind
I will not be remembered
for the days themselves —
but for the way
I bent them.
For how I took
what was given to me —
thin, uncertain,
frayed at the edges —
and rewrote its gravity
with my bare hands.
I am not building a life.
I am altering inheritance.
Not the kind you can hold —
but the kind that holds you.
A quiet scaffolding
beneath futures
that have not yet learned my name.
I have lived inside beginnings
that did not welcome me,
stood at thresholds
that measured my worth
before I could speak it,
learned the long dialect
of endurance —
where survival is fluent,
and ease is foreign.
So I became
a cartographer of elsewhere.
Mapping doors
where there were only walls,
teaching the air itself
to make room for us.
Every sacrifice —
a seam in the unseen.
Every late night —
a stitch in tomorrow's fabric.
They will never know
how heavy the hours were.
Only that time
feels lighter
in their hands.
I am lowering the altitude
of struggle.
Rewriting the starting line
so they arrive
already farther
than I was ever allowed to begin.
I want their lives
to open —
not cautiously,
not conditionally —
but like light
that has never been questioned.
I want opportunity
to recognize them
before they have to introduce themselves.
I want joy
to come to them unguarded,
and freedom
to feel like a birthright,
not a victory.
This is the work
no one applauds —
the slow re-engineering
of a bloodline's horizon.
So that one day,
when they stand
inside a life
that does not ask them
to struggle for breath —
they will not see me.
Not fully.
They will feel me
in the ease of things,
in doors that open without resistance,
in the quiet absence
of fear I once carried.
And maybe —
in some unspoken way —
they will understand
that before them,
someone
loved them enough
to rearrange
the architecture of time itself.
